Why should anyone care?
Your answer is the key to successfully prospecting at networking events, chance meetings and parties. Getting a recruiter, internal manager, investor, hiring manager or networker to care about you is critically important to fulfill your goal.
Unfortunately, the way most people explain themselves comes off as self-indulgent and boring, resulting in wasted conversations and fruitless encounters.
Prepare a simple and compelling way to explain why you are so good at what you do. This is a challenge that entrepreneurs, marketers, and sales people must excel at, and yet most do it poorly. The concept is simple: communicate what you do in the time it takes to ride an elevator from ground level until the door opens and you have to leave.
Keep in mind that thinking how you will follow up each answer with relevant, interesting and concise explanations that make the already bored interviewer look up from his/her stale coffee and think, “Wow! That’s the best answer I’ve heard all day!”
Ultimately it’s about answering quickly, it’s about speaking creatively and it’s about breaking people’s patterns so you can “connect”.
