In the season of monsoon, our body immunity becomes low. We become more prone to diseases like cough, cold or a fever. Most of the time what we do is, we go to a medicine store and buy some Paracetamol tablets to ease our ailments. These tablets may avert the problem shortly, but they have some long term negative effects on our body. For example, a person having a problem with hyper acidity should not take paracetamols as they would increase the acidity problem to an extreme level. In these cases, we should look for something without any side effect; something around us which can help without a negative impact. Ayurvedic medicines can be a great way for it. It can act as medicines while having absolutely no side effects.

Doctors around the world are now suggesting these medicines to cure cough and cold in the rainy season. Following is the list of ingredients which can be used for this purpose:-


Mix ½ tsp (table spoon) of saffron in ½ cup of boiling water and leave it for 2 to 3 minutes. Then take the solution.

Basil Leaves:

The leaves of basil have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that work very effectively in treating flu, fever, sore throat and headache. Take 8-10 leaves of basil and boil it in water. Then take the solution. You can also make a basil-leaf tea if you want.


It is the best gift of mother nature and is being used as an anti-bacterial agent for ages. Take 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of lemon juice and mix these with 1 cup of warm water. Then sip it slowly.

When it comes to fight off fever or flu there is nothing better than garlic. Consuming it raw can treat cough, cold, fever, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and reduce the chances of heart attack or stroke.

Cayenne Pepper:

Using hot cayenne pepper is a good way of removing nasal congestion, respiratory problem and sinuses. Make a cup of tea and add 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of red hot cayenne pepper in it. Then enjoy the tea.


A nice warm cup of cinnamon tea can throat itching and irritation. It also helps to cure cold and acts as a natural cure for acidity.

Having a ginger tea is probably the oldest home remedy for cold. Just take 4-5 slices of ginger and leave it for 5 minutes in 1 cup of water for boiling. Then pour the water in a cup and use a tea bag. Take ginger tea as many times as you like in a day.


Raisins are a yummy snack and it can also cure cough and cold as they have powerful anti-oxidant and antibiotic properties.


Consuming 2 tsp of turmeric powder mixed with a glass of warm water can be a great way to treat cold and fever. It also helps to ease arthritis.
